Packing on the Pounds (not me--luckily)

Chase had his one month appointment today. He's gained some weight, and has gotten a little taller! He is 8 lbs now, 21 inches long, and his head is 35 cm around (at his one week appointment he was 6 lbs 15 1/2 oz--I can't remember how big his head was. 31 cm springs to mind, but 4 cm is a big difference in 3 weeks...). She didn't tell me what percentage that made him, but she said that he's doing great. He's still a little jaundiced, but the Dr. says that it's normal for a breastfed baby. Chase left her a wet present on the exam table to say thanks, the little squirter. I'm sure she appreciated it, but that's what she gets for taking off his diaper :) I'm not looking forward to his next appointment--he'll be getting shots at that time. If he's anything like his mom, he'll be tough! But if he's anything like his Dad....

(okay, I admit it. It's the other way around. Buddy's the tough one. I've never seen him cry)

One month!

Chase is one month old today!! He goes in for his annual checkup tomorrow, but I wanted to post some recent pics and videos of chase from the past few weeks. He finally started sleeping at 3-4 hour intervals last night (instead of 1 1/2 hour intervals), and hopefully he'll continue to actually sleep during the night. For the past couple of weeks, he has stayed awake at night and slept during the day, which is fine for him, but a bit of an adjustment for us. Buddy has been nice enough to feed him a bottle at night over the weekends, so I always look forward to the weekend! Chase is finally starting to keep his eyes open for an hour or two during the day, but it seems like it's only when he has the hiccups. His eyes are still dark blue though-I think they look like little blueberries 'cause they're the exact same color! Chase smiles and I think he even giggles a little bit--but only in his sleep. We can't wait until he smiles at us for real.

A week or so ago, we went to a nearby orchard to pick some fresh fruit. We didn't last there very long because it was stinkin' hot, but we picked some delicious peaches and blueberries!

Oh! I also have some pictures from one of our (our meaning mine and Chase's) big outings last week. It seems like going out anywhere by myself with a newborn is a big outing, but I think we were gone for 3 1/2 hours this time. We went to the Mud Island River Park with some friends, where they have a to-scale model of the Mississippi River (filled with running water) that you can walk in, and a big fountain at the end that all the kids played in (and me, too--except I didn't have a bathing suit, so I could only walk around in the water and under the spray of the fountain).

Also, it was Buddy's first Father's Day yesterday! He is fitting into the role of Dad really easily. He is so helpful already, and so cute when he's with Chase. Unfortunately, I didn't have anything special prepared for him, but we were lucky enough to have some friends from our old ward invite us over for lunch/dinner to celebrate. It was the first time we had had steak in months, and it was soo good! :)

Yay! We finally have some good pictures of Chase (and us)! Jenny came to visit for a few days, and though we didn't get to go out much, we did have some fun taking pictures. I'm so glad to have such a talented sister. I feel bad that since she's the only photographer in the family, she never gets any professional pictures of herself, but such is the life of a photographer. Thanks Jenny!! Also, he has Buddy's long toes. I'm glad he didn't get my short, stubby ones :). His pinkie toe is just as long as his fourth toe! (What do you call the fourth toe? The ring finger toe?)

This is Chase's one week picture! (taken on May 28th). This is one of the only pics we have with his eyes open. Chase doesn't open his eyes for any more that 1/2 hour each day, and most of that time is at one in the morning. His eyes are sooo dark, though. I wonder what color they'll end up.

Taken May 31st: 10 days old. I see a pattern of blue here.... I wish Chase would sleep with me like this, but he seems to nap better with buddy.

Thanks again for staying to help, mom! Especially when you would take him at 3 in the morning so I could sleep a little :)
